THEY DONT CLEAN....or answer phones or provide whats advertised! Forget about your "continental breakfast", even on the odd occasion it even arrives its far from continental. We received ONE of the three breakfasts. We came to Moonta Bay Patio Motel & Restaurant via a travel auction. After a few rejects of dates because they were "too close" to school holidays, not IN school holidays but too close we were told we couldn't pay the difference. I accepted that. Then they stopped replying to emails all together until I made it obvious I was ready to contact Travel Auctions and open a complaint. Suddenly they could reply again. Magic.Upon arrival we were told we owed $405 and when I said we dont it didn't even cost us that much (we were obviously a bit shocked by this $405 request) she blamed it on someone else and didnt bother to apologise for the confusion. We were also told that the "continental dining room breakfast" was no longer a thing and it'd be delivered to our door which was a little disappointing, it could have been nice to socialize with other guests (the breakfast is in a past best before box consisting of a small kelloggs box, small longlife milk, tiny muffin and small longlife juice which looked cute in a box but isnt what was expected we were at least assuming there would be toast, especially given the fact we didnt even have a toaster. To add to that we only received ONE OF THREE breakfasts.I was but shouldnt have been surprised to discover there wasn't even a microwave to heat meals. But I was surprised that there were no basics like plates, bowls, cutlery. That sucks. I mean sure they (are suppose!) provide breakfast but itd be nice to have a bread knife to make a sandwich for lunch.Don't expect anything thats not written down such as the cutlery or other things you may not think about but may expect like a DVD player. My advice is if you have to go take a hard drive with a long cord. These aren't huge issues but are definitely things that could improve the place. The shower had build up which made me wonder how often it's cleaned and then upon going to use the bin I found a USED NAPPY. This was an absolutely disgusting find.Nobody answered receptions phone when I wanted this out of our room. (this was between 2:30-3:15ish so not out of hours!)We even tried to call later on to book dinner as advised in the book (seeming as we cant heat any of the food we bought) and no answers on either of the numbers given. Even their main number was "turned off or not available" according to the robot voice response and when it was finally ringing, still no answers! This is a Tuesday as well, so its not like its the weekend or a day they arent operating nor is it a crazy hour to be making a phonecall and these werent numerous phonecalls cramped into ten minutes, this is well over two hours of attempts so they dont care about being available for their customers. We put the bathroom bin out for them to see it and deal with it, 24 hours later, someone has been in while we've been out and changed the normal bin yet the bathroom bin with the nappy had not been touched! The nappy still inside. Thursday 11:15am we gave up waiting for breakfast and went out. Not impressed. Wednesdays breakfast was delivered Tuesday afternoon, the worker who came in, ignored the bathroom bin we had left out for them to deal with did not leave breakfast anywhere.Came back around 12pm and still no breakfast and again couldnt get through via phone. Only tried once this time, wasn't wasting my time again. The breakfast never came and there was no breakfast for the Friday either the provided ONE of three. The name wasnt gone until late afternoon Thursday, the bathroom bin never made it back to the bathroom or even our room, it was just gone. 2 days to get rid of it. Wasn't impressed. Besides that things were as youd expect, not a great mattress, extremely temperamental shower and long enough curtains for privacy. The aircon worked well though.
Stayed here after the new deck built and hotel was sold. After spending a few days further south in the Yorke we pulled up at Moonta Bay on the way home and couldn't handle going home so decided to stay an extra night. Aa 2 minute walk (a real 2 min walk) from the beach and jetty, location is perfect. Deck looks out over the ocean / beach. Early Jan we had expected everything to be booked up but the staff were very happy to help and accommodating, they were able to get us booked and checked in right away. Restaurant has a decent selection at reasonable prices, mostly set up for tapas with a few larger main sized dishes. Oysters from Stansbury, not quite as fresh as the ones we had down there but they were still very fresh and good size. Good selection of wine, could absolutely improve on the beer front however with some crafty stuff available, would be especially great to see Watsacowie since it's the only brewery in the region. Read a few not so great reviews about the restaurant and hotel but can only gather that things have recently changed with the new owners/management. Several staff are quite new which is apparent, not in a bad way, just younger staff learning the ropes but super polite and helpful. Rooms are quite basic but very clean. Only real complaint is that the mattress was like concrete although from what I understand the hotel is undergoing refurbishment of rooms, ours wasn't newly renovated so this might be why. Would certainly stay here again!
Great place, excellent parking, good organisation of events. I like it. Great food, nice view, excellent beer and wine.We often stop here with friends.
Bonus that restaurant was open from 5pm for dinner service. Friendly and polite staff. Lots of offerings on the menu including chef's specials. Desserts also available. Coffee and cake served. Servings reasonable in size and amount. Garfish, calamari and fries $23.
Great little restaurant. Fantastic service, thanks Jessica. Meals x4 were all top shelf. Good night had by all. Would have loved a salad bar.
